CONGRATULATIONS!!! You have been selected out of thousands of journalists to
embark upon a great adventure. You will be among the first humans to
settle on the planet Mars. For the past six months a small group of
scientists have been making preparations for your arrival. During your
time on the red planet, you will be gathering data and information and then
presenting your findings to the humans on Earth in the form of a news broadcast
that encourages more Earthlings to come live on Mars. Since the mission is
top secret, you may not reveal your travel plans to anyone. All of Earth
will be amazed to learn of the colony's presence when your "Breaking News
Special Bulletin" is aired during the "7th Inning Stretch" of the World Series. Each
of you will chose one of 5 topics to cover and present to the people on
Earth:

Criteria:
z Group Size:
· Minimum of 3, maximum of 5 per group
· If you have 5 people, presentations = 9-12 mins total (this time includes a mandatory 1 minute of total commercial time)
· If you have less than 5 = minimum of 7 minutes.( includes 1 minute commercial)
· You still present all 5 of the jobs= MORE work for YOU!!... 5 people in a group is best!
· You will write a script for yourself... you can read off of this.. you don't have to memorize your part.
z Commercials:
· Minimum of 1 commercial, Maximum of 3
· Your commercial(s) can not be longer than than 1 minute of your presentation time.
· Can tape commercials from TV or make up your own and sell something.
· I must approve your commercials… inappropriate content will result in HUGE loss of points.
z Presentation Method:
· Video your broadcast OR present live to the class w/ a PowerPoint presentation.
If Videoed:
a. Can use Movie Make, etc. for digital editing/ special effect.
b. Can film in library before/after school OR at your home.. if you own a video camera.
c. Come up w/ your television station’s call letters (EX. Red Planet News, Mars News)
ŕ START and END the broadcast w/ your call letters (either make a poster/slide showing them videoed OR digitally add them to your movie!!
d. Speak as loudly as you can, so you can be heard on the tape… try to get a microphone if possible. If you are outside and it is windy, you will be hard to hear.
e. Can bring either a video tape or a burned DVD
f. Presentation day... must hand in the TYPED scripts for EACH persons role.
If presented LIVE:
a. Must have a minimum of 7 slides on a PowerPoint (Title Slide...that has your names & station name/call letters, SUMMARY SLIDES...that gives a brief run down of each job's responses = 5 slides, Credit Slide.... that has your call letters again.)
